Delson Heleno WFO Title On November 22 at Art of Fighting 6 in Estero, Florida Braziliian native Delson "Pe de Chumbo" Heleno took home the WFO World Title. This is the second WFO World Title Art of Fighting has awarded. The WFO is the same sanctioning organization as the IBO in Boxing and has champions such as Manny Pacquiao, Wladimir Klitschko, and Floyd Mayweather before he "retired". Right now the organization has two world champions in MMA, Marcio Cruz and Delson Heleno. Ironically they train together.
Delson was able to stop AOF up and comer Levon Maynard in the third round via strikes. It appeared to be an early stoppage but none the less the new champion was clearly ahead on the cards with an unbreakable ground game and an endless amount of energy. Maynard held his own taking no real damage but was unable to mount an offensive most of the fight, his most devastating blows being leg kicks throughout. Levon has had two impressive appearances in the AOF cage before facing the world ranked Heleno and has become a fan favorite, look to see Maynard again soon in the AOF Cage.
Heleno now holds the WFO world title belt and will be looking for a title defense in 2010.
